Who are you and what do you do?
I’m Jill Darnell, designer and creator at John Met Betty Handbags. I create vegan leather handbags and fabric clutches using a combination of eco-friendly, pvc free faux leathers and vintage/salvaged materials.
What is your favorite new product for 2016?
My favorite product for 2016 is my new Cloud Collection. The Cloud Collection is inspired by the 60’s architecture of Marina City, seen on a recent trip to Chicago. I love midcentury design, and the graphic aesthetic of this new line has quickly become a customer favorite.
How far will you be traveling to come to UCU?
Not far at all! I live on Bainbridge Island, a 35 minute boat ride across the Puget Sound.
What do you love most about craft show vending?
Meeting the people who love and support my work in person. I spend many hours in my home studio, so it’s wonderful connecting with people in real life and getting their feedback on my work. I also enjoy meeting other vendors and shopping their beautiful handmade goods!
What’s your favorite item that you sell?
The Audrey Wallet Clutch. This little bag has been with me since the very beginning. Each year the design is reworked to fit the storage needs of current technology and the items my customers carry most often. The design has become a customer favorite, and they look for new fabrics each season. It’s a design I’m really proud of.
